A young man was seriously injured following a violent clash between two notorious gangs popularly called 'Yan-daba' in a community in Jos, the Plateau State capital. The man whose hand was chopped off was pictured being rushed to a hospital by his firends after the incident.

Yan-daba are a criminal gang known to use dangerous weapons such as daggers to intimidate members of their communities.

A man who claimed that God instructed him to engage in violent conduct, went berserk on Thursday in the premises of a Sango-Ota branch of a first generation bank, smashing car windshields and glass doors.

The middle-aged man, identified as Oyediran Oladipupo, was however prevented from barging into the bank.

The development, which caused serious panic among bank customers, saw everyone scampering for safety as they mistook the incident for armed robbery.

The bank’s management was said to have called on the policemen from the nearby Sango Area Command, who later stormed the bank and promptly arrested him.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect was in Police custody at Sango Police Station.

He said, “A man who was later identified as Oyediran Oladipupo was said to have gone to the bank (name withheld) at Temidire in Sango-Ota this afternoon.

“He was reported to have started smashing cars’ windshields and the bank’s glass doors. The management of the bank had called on policemen from the nearby Sango Police Station and the suspect was promptly arrested.

“When interrogated, the man said, ‘It’s God that sent me to do what I did.'”

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the suspect would be charged to court for malicious damage after investigation.

Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, in an on going efforts to bring the lingering issues between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government to a stop, has brokered a two week deadline for the two parties to settle all pending issues. .... 

In meeting held on Thursday which had the senate president, Minister of education and the leadership of ASUU in attendance, the senate president urged the two parties to find a way to resolve the three outstanding issues remaining. 

One of the issues is that of earned allowances, the other is the paying of the salaries and allowances of the staff of university primary schools and the payment of 15 per cent of the education budget for each year to the University Education Committees. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent statements are aimed at bringing down the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, the House of Representatives said yesterday.

The lower chamber was reacting to comments made by the ex-president at a lecture in Lagos in which he dressed down the National Assembly describing it as “a den of corruption by a gang of unarmed robbers.” The former president also hit out at the judiciary, the military and the presidency.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, House spokesman, Abdulrazak Namdas (APC, Adamawa), hit back at Obasanjo, accusing accused him of introducing corruption in the National Assembly the first day he assumed office as president in 1999, and blackmailing every government that he is not part of.

“It is unfortunate that he has started his very familiar method of bringing down governments. He did it to Alhaji Shehu Shagari, he did it to Gen. Buhari, he did same to Gen. Babangida, he attempted to bring down Gen. Abacha before he imprisoned him for treason; he made frantic efforts to derail the government of President [Umaru Musa] Yar’adua when he couldn’t use him. He supported President Goodluck Jonathan but when he refused to take dictation, he turned against him. He supported President Buhari, but since he has sensed that Nigeria is having economic difficulties under him, he has pounced to derail his government.

“The way Chief Obasanjo talks gives the impression that he is a lifetime opposition leader who has never held any office. What did he do about the issues he raised in his eight years as President?” he asked.

On the former president’s position that the House was threatening the life of the suspended former chairman of its appropriation committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin, who exposed the corruption perpetrated in the 2016 budget, Namdas said Obasanjo had allowed himself to be hoodwinked.

“We have repeatedly maintained that there was no ‘padding’ of the 2016 Appropriation Act, which is a legitimate document passed by the National Assembly, authenticated by the Clerk to the National Assembly as provided in the Acts Authentication Act and assented to by Mr. President. It is most unfortunate that a former President of Chief Obasanjo’s stature would allow himself to be hoodwinked and procured by a renegade member of the House, who embarked on massive propaganda and lies just because he was removed from office,” he said.

Namdas, who said the House would ordinarily not join issues with Obasanjo, said all the ex-president’s allegations on the National Assembly were outright lies and misstatement of facts.

He also said the budget of the National Assembly is not high as alleged by Obasanjo, adding that the federal legislature was “grossly underfunded and is hampered from effectively and legitimately carrying out its constitutionally assigned functions.”

Namdas said the National Assembly Budget funds a bureaucracy of about 5,000 civil servants and has some agencies under its purview such as the National Assembly Service Commission with its own staff of about 500. 

“National Assembly Budget also funds the National Institute for Legislative Studies, which is a legislative think-tank and highly rated academic institution that serves both National and State Houses of Assembly and even international legislators,” he added.

Namdas said no member of the House of Representatives receives N10m every month, adding that the amount each member takes monthly was not anything near what directors in some agencies take individually.

He said “Undoubtedly, the former president Obasanjo is understandably angry with the National Assembly as an institution having foiled his ambition for a third-term in office even after trying to corrupt the members with a bribe of at least N50m each. Lest we forget, the person who introduced corruption to the National Assembly is Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.” 

Lawyers differ over ex-president’s remarks

Meanwhile, senior lawyers have also reacted to the former president’s comments.

A former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chief OCJ Okocha (SAN), said it is serious and disturbing that a former president and the National Assembly can be engaged in allegations and counter allegations. 

“What this shows is that we need to really show seriousness in this war against corruption. We cannot continue to live with just allegations, specific incidents should be focused on and thorough investigation carried out and anybody found to have corruptly enriched himself or other persons should be dealt with accordingly. We can’t just continue to be making allegations against people or institutions and leave it at that.”

Abiodun Layonu (SAN) said he believes that Nigeria and Nigerians will be the ultimate beneficiaries of the verbal confrontation. “When Obasanjo reveals what he knows and any investigation is carried out and the National Assembly comes out with what they have, Nigeria will benefit. It should be encouraged.”

He said the comments should be taken seriously “even though the speaker is known to be given to exaggeration.” 

Also commenting, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) said the House of Representatives is not far from the truth in terms of allegations of corruption under Obasanjo’s presidency. He said corruption is not just in the giving and receiving of bribe, adding that mis-governance, which was prevalent under Obasanjo, is the worst form of corruption. 

He said it was under Obasanjo’s administration that Nigeria was rated as the most corrupt country for three years under anti-corruption bar of Transparency International. He said Nigerians still remember how the former President wanted to remain in power against the provisions of the Constitution and how he turned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to “an attack dog” to go after his political enemies. He added that Nigerians still remember the numerous scandals like Halliburton, the National Identity Card scandals that happened under his watch.

“Obasanjo cannot be the yardstick of measuring ethical standards,” Ozekhome said.

Obasanjo’s consistent attacks on N/Assembly

Daily Trust reports that this is not the first time former President Obasanjo will be coming down hard on the National Assembly. Earlier in January this year, Obasanjo wrote a letter to the leadership of the National Assembly where he accused both chambers of corruption.

In July this year, Obasanjo, during a visit to the presidential villa, said the allegations of budget padding in the National Assembly by suspended lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin had vindicated him, adding “if there are people who didn’t believe what I said in the past, then you now say that what has come out confirms what I said in the past.”

In October this year too, Obasanjo, while speaking in Abeokuta, Ogun State, during the opening of the 8th National Council on Industry, Trade and Investment, said constituency projects by members of the National Assembly must stop.

Media personality Toke Makinwa has survived a whole lot. At the age of 8, she lost her parents in a house fire.

As an immature teenager, through her twenties, she fell in love with a man who would nearly ruin her life - with a Compromizing Video, side girlfriends. A man that almost drove her to commit suicide by drinking Dettol after he cheated, got babymama pregnant, their wedding crashed and the story blew into a huge international scandal.

Toke Makinwa now has a soon to be released book – On Becoming in which she shared her incredible survival story and it has been an interesting and eye-opening read so far!

Toke says it “is not a tell-all but a must tell. Here are some MUST-READ excerpts.

The Discovery
I got on my knees in front of him, my voice calm as I can make it. “Maje, you can’t keep lying. What is going on?
He walks away, leaving me there with my heart in my hands. I see him pacing, like he is
having a private conversation. Then all of a sudden, he walks back to the living room, looks straight into my eyes and says, ‘She’s pregnant’.
I fall to the ground. My head….
‘What’s she having?’
‘A boy,’ he says.
‘How long have you known?’
‘I’ve always known…. It was what I thought I wanted,’ he says.

The Wedding

“Finally, I thought. He chose me! He has stepped up and he’s finally ready to make us a priority.
It was my wedding day.
I was happy, yet I was waiting for something to happen. Maje had disappointed me three times before. We would pick a date to go to the wedding registry and he would call it off…. We had discussed eloping, but he’d never committed to any plan. 
It wasn’t until we shared our first dance to John Legend’s ‘All of Me’ that I finally believed that it had happened. 
We got back together (after a quarrel because Maje took ‘an ex’ to a party he bluntly told Toke he wasn’t taking her to and he and the ex were ‘touching freely and kissing’)… 
Maje invited me to Abuja…. As I was putting away my things I saw all kinds of feminine items – earrings on the dresser, sanitary pads in the drawer….”

The Other Woman

“Who was that girl?” I asked
“That’s that girl”
“Which girl?”
“The girl I told you about. Her friends are always calling me to say she really likes me and has a crush on me. Her name is Anita.”
“So that’s the Anita girl they say you are dating.”
“I’m not dating her. How can I date someone that is always saying ‘can I come and see you? I’ll bring my friend that you think is cute’?”
I accepted Maje’s explanation and concluded that Anita was not important. So I’ll be with Maje and she’d call and I’d tell him, “The girl that has a crush on you is calling.” And it would be nothing.

The Compromizing Video and Bleaching

“At some point while we were dating, Maje had asked if he could tape us having sex. This was a new one for me but I would do anything to keep my man, or so I thought, and so I obliged. 
But I was nervous afterwards because I didn’t want the tape to get into the wrong hands…. 
I dragged the file back to his desktop, and I could tell from the stilled image in the video that the person in it was not me…. I clicked play and watched horrified as Maje had sex with Anita. 
Watching that video, all of the inadequacies I thought I had dealt with over the years came rushing back. 
I had been with Maje from when I was an immature teenager, through my twenties, and for most of those years, Anita had been the standard I had to live up to. I had lightened my skin at some point – Anita was half Lebanese and half Ibibio, and Maje made me feel like he preferred her lighter skin.”

Breakups and Makeups

Months passed and I still couldn’t find a job (in London). And I was still heartbroken. Maje and Anita were officially an item, and I stalked them on Facebook. Maje would put her picture up and they would write on each other’s walls.
…one cold night as I got off the bus, I got a Facebook message from Maje. It read: ‘I miss you and I cannot deny or hide it, come back to me’.
We started talking again… I convinced myself that he had changed.
Maje and I had been together for nine years, on and off, at this point, and it had been an unending cycle of hurt and betrayal. Every time we took ten steps forward in our relationship, we took fifty back. Each time I gave up and let go, Maje would come after me and hold on so tightly till I gave in.

Another child

… there was a 70-day fasting and prayer programme at my church. I joined in: I was praying for Maje and I. On the final day, I prayed and asked God to reveal why Maje and I couldn’t find peace with each other.
…I opened my email address and typed Maje’s email address in. I had no idea what his password was but I was determined to get into his account…. I went through email after email until I found pictures of a boy that looked exactly like Maje….

Contemplating Suicide

I was sitting in the bedroom one day. There was a bottle of Dettol in the bathroom and a thought came, very strong, “Just drink it and die. What’s the point? The whole world is laughing at you right now. Just end it.”
Faith
The devil finds a way to fill your head with lies when you have just gone through a period. These lies can make you question everything, including the very purpose of your existence. Lies like:
‘You’re not good enough’
‘This is the best thing that could have happened to you and now it’s falling apart’
‘This will end you’
When this lies came, God’s word provided a much-needed comfort and a reminder of my identity and His plans for me.

Moving on and Healing

Maje hadn’t made it easy for me to move on. He’d begged like his life depended on me staying….
And then there were the outrageous comments:
‘Maje spent X amount of time with Anita so she wasn’t the mistress, Toke was’
‘She didn’t break your home, you did. You came between two people who loved each other by marrying him’. 

…. That day’s topic was about making marriage work, and it hit me so hard that I cried like a baby. I wasn’t a virtuous woman; I was a girl! A girl with a daddy-void so large that she had all of her issues and expectations on a man who was still trying to discover his purpose. 

All my mistakes became clear to me. I hadn’t lost my marriage to another woman. I had given my marriage to her. 
While I’m not sure if I’ll find love again, I am sure of the contentment I have found in a God who’s got my back 100%.

Speaking about the hip hop star’s welfare, a source told PEOPLE:

“He feels like he’s under spiritual attack, and has been for a while. It’s not just the big things; it’s smaller, quieter things, internal things. You might think that it’s about Kim’s robbery, and while that didn’t help, that’s not what’s going on here. He’s dealing with a lot more subtle issues.
“Sometimes, darkness creeps in, and Kanye wrestles against it. He talks about that a lot. It’s exhausting, and it takes everything he’s got. He’s just so tired now; he’s very low energy and feels like there’s a grieving in his spirit. It’s very hard to explain, but something has happened recently, where he’s not the Ye that everyone knows … He’s in a very reflective place right now.”

Kanye – who has three-year-old daughter North and 23-month-old son Saint with his wife Kim – tries to privately deal with his grief about his mother’s passing but it’s always there every time the anniversary comes around.

n a series of Facebook Post, Reno Omokri, the former Presidential Aide has once again attacked Nigeria Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun as one of the reasons for the present economy woes in the country.

Acording to Reno:

This table shows the best universities and the worst ones in England. University of East London, the school our pretty finance minister, Kemi Adeosun , attended is number one amongst the worst. This is a former polytechnic that only became a university in 1992. Now you know why you have a recession!
